Originally released on Soul Note, this long-playing 72-minute record was Douglas' 3rd for the label. The group, a quintet with violinist Mark Feldman, cellist Erik Friedlander, bassist Drew Gress, and drummer Michael Sarin, works their way through Douglas compositions, many infused with Jewish, Balkan, and Middle-Eastern themes. You can also hear classical or chamber elements throughout. Tunes from Messiaen (Desseins Eternals brought from La Nativite du Seigneur for organ) and Weill (Bilbao Song), and songs paying tribute to Tony Williams and the lives lost in Acteal, Mexico in 1997.
