A Balm in Portland

Breaking news says the Portland, Oregon Jazz Festival is closing up shop. This is sad news. Bill Royston built up a really nice scene in just a few short years. There was always a really warm feeling there. Portland pianist and composer Darrell Grant is quoted in the story: “You can’t even calculate the future loss,” he said. “You don’t know about all the opportunities that won’t happen because the music is not here.”

Here’s hoping they’ll find a way to keep it alive.
