Amazing Sun Ra Archive Going on Exhibit
A wonderful article, written by Peter Margasak, appeared in this week’s Chicago Reader about an archive of Sun Ra material that is going on exhibit next week here in Chicago. Seems John Corbett, a leading jazz and art critic here in town, purchased the archive about 5 years ago from Ra’s 1950s era manager. The archive, which includes gig flyers, posters, album art, even master recordings, covers Ra’s years in Chicago from his beginnings as a bandleader up until the time he moved East in the early 1960s. Here’s an example of what is included, an early poetry book by Ra. If you’re in Chicago, this is a must-see. If you’re not here, we hope it comes to your area sometime soon.
