A wonderful interview with Donny on Perpetual Motion in the Italian publication Musica Jazz hit yesterday.
In che modo la storia del jazz elettrico ha influenzato la nascita e lo sviluppo di “Perpetual Motion” ?
Rather than on the broader history of electric jazz, I focused on listening to those albums that I knew would help me to get into the right mood. Più che sulla più ampia storia del jazz elettrico mi sono concentrato sull’ascolto di quei dischi che sapevo mi avrebbero aiutato ad entrare nel mood giusto. I cite for example, “Extensions of a Man” by Donny Hathaway, “Flood” of the Headhunters or the song You’ve Got to Funkifize of Tower of Power. Not really. Non proprio. I suppose to play louder, letting myself be guided by instinct in most cases. Suppongo di suonare più forte, lasciandomi guidare dall’istinto il più delle volte.
