On April 28-29 of this year, the Dave Douglas Quintet played the Green Mill here in Chicago as part of its US tour in support of Meaning and Mystery. This band and the Green Mill were made for each other and this gig did not disappoint. I know because I was lucky enough to be there both nights. We also were fortunate to get a recording of the second night. We’ve posted a live version of Elk’s Club, a Meaning & Mystery fave, from that recording as our June 1 Monthly Free Download to our Subscribers. Please consider subscribing here. It’s a great way to support our efforts and get free stuff too. Here’s what Dave D. had to say about this version of Elk’s Club:

More shenanigans surrounding the encounter with furry, antlered beings, this time in front of an enthusiastic live audience at one of my favorite joints: The Green Mill in Chicago. Features astounding solos from Donny McCaslin and James Genus.
