Jazz Standard

I heard quite a bit about the FONT finale on Sunday night at the Jazz Standard — a Woody Shaw remembrance show with Dave Douglas, Randy Brecker, Josh Evans, Uri Caine, Matt Penman, and Clarence Penn. With a group like that, how could it have not been amazing?

And continuing with Greenleaf-related shows, Donny McCaslin brings his trio to the Standard tonight (Sept. 30th). A slightly different lineup as his previous performances in NYC, Donny brings Ricky Rodriguez (bass) and Ted Poor (drums) to the stage playing his Trio material. 2 performances are schedule: 7:30 & 9:30. With all this great music happening in NYC, I find myself wishing once again that I could be in two places at once. That way I could have seen My Bloody Valentine (one of the loudest concerts in history), and all the great events last week and this week. But with Donny coming out to Chicago on the 10th and 11th of October, I can wait patiently.

Shana tova.
