Thanks to Destination Out you can check out part of Don Cherry’s Relativity Suite on line.

Steven Bernstein did an extraordinary rendition (the musical kind) of this piece last week and I’m just now getting around to mentioning it. I wore the grooves out on my first copy of this record, and it was so much fun to hear the themes reprised by the fantastic cast of the Millennial Territory Orchestra. In a brilliant reexamination of the material, Steven rearranged and tweaked in the spirit of the composer.

I made a short film of Tony Malaby’s solo on March of the Hobbits. I’ll have it posted here soon…

The Festival of New Trumpet Music continues Tuesday through Thursday at MAKOR, with new music commissioned from Cuong Vu and Peter Evans (Tuesday), Du Yun and Marc Gould (Wednesday), and Amir ElSaffar and Jonathan Finlayson (Thursday).
